Five children in the waiting list for heart surgeries at Karapitiya hospital have died due to the delay in conducting of operations which had been suspended for about six months, hospital sources said.

The dead were one year and two year old children.

The sources further said that there were about 50 serious cases awaiting surgeries.

Patients said that the unit had closed down because the new anaesthetic attached to the cardio surgery had no proper training.
