| Be fair by CIM candidates The Charted Institute of Management examination was held from December 3 to 6 amidst the heat of the general elections. I, a parent of a candidate, feel very sorry for all the candidates who were unable to sit for this examination. They were sent admission cards and notified of the venue of the examination at the very last moment by the Commissioner of Examinations. Examination commenced on 3.12.2001 Monday, and many candidates received these documents through courier service only on 1.12.2001 Saturday. This prevented many candidates from far away areas such as Matale, Galewela, Polonnaruwa, Matara, Hambantota, Kandy and war stricken northern areas from attending since they were unable to find accommodation/ travelling etc., at short notice and the uncertainty that prevailed throughout the country in view of elections and resultant curfews. The candidates who were to sit for this examination, which is a turning point in their life need a lot of preparation, and has to pay a considerable amount of foreign exchange as membership and examination fees which is not refundable. Therefore the government elect must take cognizance of the hardships of their outstation candidates and be fair by them. I propose that the above examination be re-scheduled for an early date or allow these candidates to prepare for the next examination to be held in June 2002 taking into consideration. This will be a great relief to the parents of unemployed candidates. |
