Puttalam district UNP member of parliament, Range Bandara has requested Puttalam police to arrest all persons responsible for election violence in north eastern province during the last general election.

Following this request Puttalam police has carried out search operations in several houses belonging to suspects inclusive of a politician in the area.

It had also been revealed that about 50 suspects wanted in connection with election violence in the north western province had fled the area. Several teams of the police are presently conducting search operations in other areas in the country to arrest these suspects.

All vehicles entering the western province are subjected to strict searches, police sources said.
