Tigers don’t change their stripes

The LTTE has launched several attacks after the election. All these attacks were unprovoked because there were no military offensives. The LTTE leader calls for peace talks. Here in London, the LTTE supporters pretend to be peace activists and continue their contributions to the war. At home, the LTTE is taking targets.

Why is the LTTE doing this? If it is for peace and wants to create an environment for peace talks, why is it launching these attacks? Does it want to negotiate from a position of strength?

The war in Afghanistan is coming to an end with or without Laden’s head. The US cannot justify continuation of the war there as Laden’s forces have almost given in. The bombing that devastated Afghanistan may have scared the enemies of America. They will be too scared to attack the US again.

The US led forces will be complacent and other terrorist groups will have a respite. The US as has been the case always will not pursue terrorists in other countries so long as they don’t pose a danger to the US interests. Who knows if other terrorist organisations have given a pledge to the CIA that they will steer clear of the US and its allies? They can be used to control the nations hostile to the US and the West. US has always done this.

The US has never advocated the decimation of the LTTE. Sri Lanka is under pressure to have peace talks with the terrorists.

The situation cannot be worse than at present for the LTTE. It has been proscribed in the US, India and the UK. Anti terrorist sentiments are strong in the world. But the LTTE is still launching attacks. If the LTTE can do so at this moment, it will carry out attacks more easily in the future when the situation improves for them.

We don’t see why the government should fall into a peace trap. As a group dedicated to countering LTTE terrorism, we call upon the government of Sri Lanka to tread cautiously. Be prepared!
