| Star studded HNB take on Delmege by
T. Prem Kumar The tournament is organised and conducted by the Mercantile Basketball Association. Thiran Gunasekara chief executive director of Panadura Finance & Enterprises, will be the guest of honour at the awards ceremony. Sampath Bank are the holders of the A Division title, but this year they are in third place in this tournament. Hatton National Bank A (HNB A) and Delmege Group will clash in the A Division final. The HNB A team includes three national players in, N. Thwaharan, Chatura Wikramage and Duke Rajapaksha. The rest of the team are also experienced, having been in the national pool and represented the country. HNB A made it to the finals playing six matches and they only lost one match to Delmege, in the preliminary rounds. Delmege makes the finals after a ten year break. Delmege have played six matches, but they could win only four matches. They lost to HNB A and Sampath Bank. Delmege enjoys the services of only one past national player in Roshan Gunasekara. The rest are young players. Even though Delmege lack national players they are bound to fight hard, in the finals. Seylan Bank will meet Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation A (HSBC A) in the B Division final at 5.00 p.m. HSBC A made it to the final by defeating David Peiris, 53 - 44, while Seylan Bank downed HNB B, 61 - 40. |
