New deputy minister has strong business background

A young man with a strong business background as a financial analyst and a banker has been picked to be the new Deputy Minister of Power and Energy.

Sagala Ratnayake, 31, who comes from the Ratnayake family of Deniyaya with deep political roots was head prefect of Royal College Colombo winning colours in athletics and rowing before going to the USA for his higher education with a scholarship from Lewis and Clark College.

On his return to Sri Lanka, Ratnayake who holds a business administration degree served as financial analyst at Central Finance and later joined HSBC where he rose to be the credit operations manager at the bank’s head office in Colombo.
