by Franklin R. Satyapalan
Senior spokesperson for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), from Batticaloa District A. Selvendran has called upon the United National Party (UNP) not to delay in laying down their official stand regarding the ethnic problem.

Mr. Selvendran in a letter to UNP General Secretary Senarath Kapukotuwa on Monday has stated that government ministers were expressing various incoherent views, therefore the Tamil people find it difficult to comprehend the exact views on the peace process that will be articulated by the new government.

The UNP during election time did not spell out a definite method of solving the ethnic problem but now that they are in the seats of power, they can officially state their views on the problem and how they would solve this problem.

Mahinda Wijesekera who came from the PA has stated that if a settlement cannot be reached with the Tigers within a period of one year there would be no alternative but to militarily suppress or put down the Tigers.

Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando has said that the Tigers must lay down arms before any talks.

The most important question is that the ethnic conflict has to be solved but we find that various views are expressed, therefore it is imparative that the government should speak with one voice regarding this problem, he has further stated.
