| An exceptional old Trinitian It is customary for people to love a winner. Everyone will now crowd around the new government for favours and appointments and contracts. The vanquished will be forgotten and worse denied by the same people who profited the most from them. That is the nature of the political beast. In this transitory moment let me also join the reader who applauded Minister Kadirgamar; A Trinitian who had my late fathers highest respect. He tirelessly campaigned to combat tiger propaganda. He has earned the hatred of terrorists but he has won the admiration of everyone who watched his eloquence and professionalism at work overseas. Specially in the west where we can certainly say he made an impact on behalf all those who despise terrorism. Thank you Mr. Kadirgamar for your incredible efforts to combat terrorist propaganda and lobbying efforts in the west. Thank you Mr. Foreign Minister Emeritus for your wise counsel and tireless efforts on behalf of Sri Lanka. On a personal note, I was flabbergasted at how he put himself in the open thus risking his life to attend my fathers funeral at the Kanatte in 1999 which was a security mans nightmare. This he did so quite openly, when he was one of the key targets for assassination by the terrorists. There must be something about exceptional old Trinitians of that generation; I think it has to do with honour, integrity and grit that they learn at school. If the PA government had more ministers like him and if the President listened to people like him more, the PA probably wont be in
this predicament today. |
