Kandy - A corporal of the Sinha Regiment suspected of throwing a hand grenade at the official residence of the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa a month ago has been taken into custody by the Kandy police.

The suspect Corporal Navaratne was produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate Leon Seneviratne who remanded him till December 31.

The bomb was thrown at the house on the night of November 28 while the Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne was out of the country.

Investigations are conducted by IP Kamal Ariyawanse on the directions of Kandy Senior SP Asoka Ratnaweera and SP Daya Samaraweera.
