| Man dies after penicillin treatment By
Sandasen Marasinghe The deceased Naiwala Appuhamilage Somapala (62) of Hansa Rice Mills, Hunumulla died at Nawaloka Hospital on December 28. The Colombo City Coroner Edward Ahangama returned a verdict of accidental death due to being sensitive to Penicillin, at the inquest held on December 28. The wife of the deceased Sriyalatha Ramanayake (57) giving evidence at the inquest said: The deceased was my husband. We have been married for 40 years. We have two children. My husband ran a rice mill. He was suffering from diabetics. He took medicine from Nawaloka hospital. He was suffering from high blood pressure and had taken medicine for heart disease. He was given Penicillin on a regular basis. On December 28 he went to Nawaloka hospital to get Penicillin treatment. While he was being injected Penicillin, he fainted. Though he was treated he passed away around about 1.15 p.m. The witnesses were produced by PC Gunasundara (19974) of Slave Island Police Station. |
