Annual Kelaniya Durutu Maha Perahera

The annual Durutu Maha Perahera of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya will be held from January 25, 26 and 27.

The pageant will be begin at 10 p.m. daily.

The Dorakada Asna and the "Anusasana" customarily held as part of this religious festival is scheduled for January 24.

The "Anusasana" will be delivered by Ven. Dr. Udugampola Gunananda Thero, Viharadhipathi of Yatawatte Raja Mahaviharaya, Kossinna.

Dorakada Asna will be recited by Master Nalinda Keminda Attygalle, Year 8 student of Royal College and son of Mr. Dhammika Attygalle, Chief Basnayake Nilame of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and of Mrs. Vishmi Attygalle, Master Keminda Attygalle is the great grandson of late Helena Wijewardane Lamathenie and grandson of the late Mr. Upali Wijewardane.

The Kelaniya Durutu Festival is held under the patronage of the chief incumbent of Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Dr. Kollupitiya Mahinda Sangharakkitha Thero.

This annual religious ceremony is organised by the Dayaka Sabha whose Chairman is Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Chief Basnayake Nilame Mr. Shalitha Wijesundara.
