| LETTERS Ministers sons behaviour I read with concern the news item in the Daily Mirror pertaining to the behaviour of a ministers son at the Galle Face Hotel on New Years Eve. It would appear, apart from the disgusting behaviour which ruined the evening for a number of people, that a firearm was fired by either the individual or his security guard. The public would like to know 1. Whether and why children of ministers are entitled to security provided by the State. 2. Whether the weapon used was licensed to the user, if it was the individual or private security guard. 3. Why the person was not arrested for discharging a dangerous weapon in a public place, endangering the safety of others. 4. What action the IGP and the Interior Minister are taking in this regard. This sort of conduct was the norm during the previous regime, and it was expected that it would not be condoned by the new government which is preaching the establishment of law and order. Should no action be taken against this individual, it is quite clear that this government, in spite of its high moral stance, is no better than the last; it would be quite apparent that the law is being applied differently, according to who you are. We expect better of this government, which should not dissipate the goodwill which it
now enjoys. The public is entitled to a statement on this matter. Over to you Mr. John
