Ministry vehicle not yet returned

by Norman Palihawadane
A Mitshubishi van belonging to the Mahaweli Ministry found in the house of an uncle of a Deputy Minister in the former government at Borelesgamuwa was taken into custody by Maharagama police yesterday.

Investigations had revealed that the van taken by the deputy minister from the Mahaweli Ministry for election propaganda work during the last general elections had handed it over to his uncle after the general elections. Most of the valuable parts in the van had been removed, police sources said.

Police headquarters meanwhile had instructed all police stations in the country to take into custody vehicles taken by Peoples Alliance MPs in the areas for election work but not yet returned, police sources said.
