| Indonesia finds no proof of al Qaeda network SINGAPORE, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Indonesias chief security minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Tuesday no evidence had been found so far that Osama bin Ladens al Qaeda group was operating in the worlds largest Muslim nation. Yudhoyono, speaking to reporters in Bahasa Indonesia language after attending a seminar in Singapore, said Indonesias intelligence services and police were using a variety of methods to detect members of the group blamed for the September 11 attacks on the United States. "There was information of an al Qaeda network in Indonesia in various places and this is being investigated. So far, we have not found concrete evidence," he said. "If it is there, we will take the appropriate measures in accordance with Indonesias commitment to combat terrorism." Following checks of bank accounts and "certain individuals", no one had been detained on suspicion of links to al Qaeda, he said, and no hard evidence uncovered. |
