Murali joins 400 club

page1.jpg (18108 bytes)Sri Lanka’s champion off-spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan, became the seventh player in the history of the game in cricket to claim 400 wickets.

He achieved this milestone when he clean bowled Zimbabwe’s Henry Olanga for a duck in the Zimbabwe first innings in the third and final Cricket test match at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.

Muralitharan, who is 29 years old, becomes the youngest player to get 400 wickets in test cricket. Shane Warne happens to be the only other off spinner in the world to have achieved this feat.

Muralitharan is also credited with having claimed the 400 wickets in the least number of matches. The off spinner, who claimed his four hundreth wicket in 72 matches, erases the exsisting record of Sir Richard Hadlee who reached this milestone playing his eightieth test match.
