Two foreigners arrested with forged US notes

Mt. Lavinia police on Monday arrested two South African nationals from a house situated in the area for having forged 100 US $ currency notes worth around Rs. 56-60 million in their possession.

SSP W. P. Dayaratne told ‘The Island’ that the two suspects had obtained one month tourist visa.

Investigations had revealed that the two suspects had been staying in a leading five star hotel in Colombo.

Investigations had revealed that all the currency notes which had been blanks could be used after applying a special chemical.

The SSP said that all the blank currency notes were similar to 100 US$ currency notes.

The suspects would be interrogated to ascertain their whereabouts and the motive behind the under cover act.

The exact value of the items had not been ascertained as yet.
