Meetiyagoda — A man and a woman were killed and five were injured when an army deserter opened fire at them over a money dispute on Monday.

Meetiyagoda police said that the male had been identified as Kevin and woman as R. W. Gunawathi (40) of Batapola.

The man had died on the spot while the woman had succumbed to her injuries on admission to Karapitiya hospital.

All the injured had been admitted to the Karapitiya hospital.

Police said that the army deserter who opened fire was attacked by the persons on the vicinity. (K.W)
