The national Badminton team is expected to participate at the "Thomas Cup" and "Uber Cup" Badminton Championships which will be played from Feburary 17 to 24 in Holland .

The National Badminton Selection Committee, headed by Major S. J.Weerasena has already finished trials to select a team and it is reported that they sent thier names to the Sports Ministry for apporval yesterday .

Meanwhile badminton officials are planning to send five men and women for this tournament." Everything will depend on the funds available, " said a Senior official of the Badminton Assosiation . " If we have enough funds we can send five men and five women , otherwise we have to send less members for this tournament . Last time in year 2000 Sri Lankan team comprised 5 men and 4 women for this same tournament," the official further said

Training Programme for coaches

Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) is conducting a Badminton training Programme for the coaches at present under the guidence of Mohan Subramaniam of Malaysia. He is the Asian development Badminton officer . The training Programme started last Sunday and the closing ceremony will be held next Saturday. Twenty eight coaches are involved in this coaching Programme .
