US State Dept. No. 2 due here

COLOMBO, (AFP) - US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage is expected to visit Sri Lanka shortly, a senior minister announced here Thursday.

Constitutional Affairs Minister G. L. Peiris said the visit by Armitage would signal strong US support for the island’s peace process aimed at ending decades of ethnic bloodshed that has claimed more than 60,000 lives.

No dates were announced for the visit which will be the highest level by the Bush administration.
