August derailment report was handed in, says retired judge

Reference our feature article "The buck passes as investigation continue into railway disaster" published last Sunday, Mr. G. L. M. de Silva, retired High Court Judge, said that it was not correct to state that the report of the investigation into the derailment of the Udarata Menike in August last year had not been handed in.

"My report was handed to the Minister on October 29, 2001," de Silva said.

He also said he hadn’t held that the cause of the derailment was speeding. "There were causes other than speeding," he said.
