UNP’s 100 day programme

Those who voted the UNP to power, could celebrate the following achievements within thirty days.

Raiding the Athurugiriya Army safe house used by the Directorate of Military Intelligence - an inglorious fiasco resulting in top state secrets, reaching Prabakaran, keeping 137 C.W.E. stores islandwide open 24 hours to bring down the cost of living!

The once cleared pavements for the benefit of the pedestrians, are regained by the payment hawkers, driving the pedestrians to the road, several leading state enterprises without chairmen and directors peace mission to India returning with 300,000 tons of wheat sold by India at a price, thus increasing to Himalayan heights Rupees 45 billion trade balance in India’s favour, agreeing to a feasibility study to build a bridge linking Mannar with India - a bridge to Eelam and Tamil Nadu. Goods useful for LTTE are flowing freely for the use of the fourth Eelam War Ports of Sri Lanka are returned to Mr Rauff Hakeem.

Those who voted UNP need not despair. Best is yet to come along with a deep decline in cost of living and a revival of the economy with exports of kankun and chicken to Japan in competition with China.

As Mr. R. Mendis has pointed out in the Sunday Island of 6th January 2002, the UNP strategy now appears to be to either get rid of President Chandrika with an impeachment motion against her, or abolish the executive presidency.

It is most important for both politicians and voters to remember that UNP received only 47% of the votes and over 50% of the voters voted for the P.A. and the J.V.P. and gainst the UNP.
