Two new non-executive directors at Ceylon Tobacco

The Ceylon Tobacco Company has announced the appointment of two non-executive directors to its board — Mrs. Lakmali Gunawardena Nanayakkara (43), a partner of Ernst & Young and Stephen Daintith (36), CEO of British American Tobacco Bangladesh.

Mrs. Nanayakkara is a well respected accountant, specialising in tax planning and has served on several committees of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. She is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of the UK (FCMA) and an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Nanayakkara serves on the boards of Chemanex Limited, LOLC, Delmege Forsyth (Exports) and Delmege Insurance Brokers in a non-executive capacity.

Daintith who joined BAT in 1996 as International Audit Controller has been Finance Director and Business Development Director of BAT South Africa and Finance Director of Pakistan Tobacco.

A chartered accountant, he qualified with PriceWaterHouseCoopers working in their London and Chicago offices.

The present composition of the Ceylon Tobacco board is as follows: Denis Perera (Chairman - Non-executive), Fred Combe (MD/CEO), J. Bandaranayake (Deputy M/D), Vijaya Malalasekera, S. Amaratunga, James Mather, Ken Balendra, Chandra Jayaratne, L. G. Nanayakkara and Stephen Daintith.
