Intl. schools students will be open to all sports — Min. Johnston Fernando
Gateway Intl. School shows its prowess in sports

Gateway International School emerged overall champions at the Inter-International Schools’ annual sports meet held recently at the Shalika Grounds in Narahenpita, Colombo.

Gateway Intl. School secured 571.5 pts. winning 5 individual championships and 2 overall with Colombo. Intl. School second with 458.5 pts (3 IC + 1OL) and Royal Institute third with 302.5 pts (3 IC + 3 OL).

The other placings were Stafford Intl. School 185 pts. (1 IC), Belvoir College Intl. School 173.5 pts (1 IC + 1 OC), Lyceum Intl. School 134.5 pts, Asian Intl. School 133 pts, Wycherley Intl. School 117 pts, British School 63 pts (1 IC), Leighton Park Intl. School 54 pts, Alethea Intl. School 42 pts, Gateway (Kandy) Intl. School 26 pts, St. Nicholas’ Intl. School 25 pts (1 IC), College of World Education 15 pts and Ikra Intl. School 13.5 pts.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Johnston Fernando who was the chief guest said that the Education Ministry has permitted students of international schools to participate in sports events conducted by the ministry, but they have been deprived of playing in cricket tournaments conducted by the SLSCA.

He will in future make available to students of international schools to participate in sporting events conducted at both school and national level.
