| Ombudsman Maddumagewatte Housing Scheme road The residents of the Maddumagewatte Housing Scheme undergo much inconvenience and severe hardship due to the inaction of the authorities concerned due to Telecommuication Department digging up the road and not relaying it. In March 2001 the Telecommunication Department dug up a side of the Housing Scheme road from top of the road to lay cables. To relay the road, we were informed that the Telecommunication Department paid the due sum to the Kotte Pradeshiya Saba instead of the Maharagama Pradeshiya Saba under whom the scheme comes. Neither the Kotte Pradesa Saba repaired the road nor returned the money to the Maharagama Pradeshiya Saba . Everything is at a standstill and the residents are inconvenienced. The residents are unable to make full use of the road either while walking or motoring. In fact visitors have told the residents they do not like to make the next visit to the scheme. The residents have now realised that it is better to have a well done up road rather than losing the road for the sake of telephone facilities. To gain a service we have to sacrifice a service. This looks ugly on Telecommunication Department and Local Authorities. Also on top of the road is Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya. Vehicles, which come to the Vidyalaya use this scheme road to park their vehicles and reverse with only part of this road is usable. This adds to the inconvenience of the residents. During the last general election almost all the candidates who contested this area
agreed to repair the road when returned to power. Some of the candidates said we are not
in power but return us we will do it in a short period. Now the new government is in power
and people are living with lots of hope. The Local Government Polls are also around the
corner. We are sure all parties would come around our scheme to canvass. We appeal to all
these candidates not to come with false promises. But the ruling party candidates could
first repair to road and then come to us for votes. |
