Kurunegala, Nawalapitiya register wins at Vincent Dias Stadium

Mahajana Sports Club from Kurunegala and Young Marians S.C. Nawalapitiya registered victories in their Division II Premier League Football encounter played at the Badulla Vincent Dias Stadium over the weekend. Four teams, Mahaiana SC, Olympic S.C., Young Marians S.C. Nawalapitiya and Trinco Olympics Sports Club have been requested by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka to play each other at a neutral grounds. Accordingly, these four teams will play at the Vincent Dias Stadium.

In Saturday’s Mahajana SC beat Olympic SC from Marudamunai, Ampara by 3 goals to one. M. L Farmanulla (2) and N. Asela de Silva scored the goals for Mahajana SC while the only goal for the losers came from the boot of A. A. Ismy. All goals were scored during the second period of the game.

R. L. Alponso of the Badulla DRA officiated the encounter.

On Sunday (10.02.02) Young Marians surprised Trinco Olympics with a 2-1 victory at the Vincent Dias Stadium.

A superb pass from the left flank by K. D. Jayasooriya enabled R. P. Anura to head the first goal for Nawalapitiya in the 15th minute of the game, while the second goal was scored by R. M. Riyas in the second half. Ten minutes before the final whistle Trinco Olympics reduced the lead by a penalty scored by R. J. Gibson. Trinco custodian K. Yasantha Kumar did a grand job between the post with the assistance of their full hack J. P. Robinson.

Anura de Silva officiated.

February 16: Olympic SC Ampara vs. Trinco Olympics SC

February 17: Young Marians SC Nawalapitiya vs. Mahajana SC Kurunegala.

February 23: Mahajana SC vs. Trinco Olympics SC

February 24: Olympic SC Vs. Young Marians SC
