| BOI status for Butani group The Butani group of companies has been granted BOI status by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka under the groups harmonization scheme, the company said in a news release. BOI Chairman/Director General Arjuna Mahendran conferred this status on the group at a ceremony in his World Trade Centre office at which Butani Chairman Prakash Butani, Managing Director Kishin Butani and Group General Manager Hassan Sinhawansa participated. Group Attorney Neil Wijeratne was also present. The group which has recently achieved ISO 9002 status has been a pioneer in taking the garments industry to the rural countryside. In addition to Butani Exports Limited based in Colombo, PMK Garment Pvt. Ltd. and INATUB Garment Pvt. Ltd. at Giriulla comprise the group. A company news release said that all three factories provide hostel facilities for their machine operators. A training centre had also been established at Lunugamvehera/Tangalle and similar facilities are being opened at areas such as Dambulla and Kurunegala. "Our success is rooted in the managements constant concern for staff welfare at all levels. We are now expanding our factories to give workers more space in an uncrowded environment," the news release said. |
