| Meal cuts, SriLankans way to recoup losses? Is SriLankan trying to recoup their losses by cutting down on the meals they serve on board? While it was good enough for Indian Airlines to serve meals for passengers bound from Colombo to Chennai (Madras), Sri Lankas national airline, SriLankan, appears to feel that a packet of crispies is a good enough replacement for a rice meal for passengers making the journey to Colombo from Chennai. Passengers who flew on economy class in an Indian Airline flight from Colombo to Chennai on Wednesday afternoon (departure, 3.50 pm) were served with a glass of fruit juice and biryani, followed by dessert. But passengers who booked a flight from Chennai to Colombo in a SriLankan Airline flight on Saturday night (departure, 10 pm) were served with a packet of crispies and the option of either having a can of beer or a glass of fruit juice. There was no rice meal for them. This made a journalist who was making this flight to remark that cutting down on meals may be one way that SriLankan is trying to recoup their losses. (PA) |
