Armed Tigers violate ceasefire: Enter Kadiriveli

By Norman Palihawadana
Despite army orders, nearly 300 armed Tigers have entered Kadiriveli area in Batticaloa from Valachchenai in Polonnaruwa on March 30, contrary to the Peace Agreement between LTTE and Sri Lanka Govt.

The group has been identified as the Baby Brigade of the LTTE. Four women Tigers had been also part of the group, security sources said.

They had in their possession the firearms, LMG, RPG - multipurpose machine guns and light machine guns.

The army captain who was on duty had pointed out that it was contrary to the Peace Agreement to travel from an area which comes under the army to Kadiraveli in Batticaloa. Then the Tiger leader named Weerasingham had claimed that it was for a 48 hour festival at Kadiraveli and it was not necessary for them to talk with an army captain on a matter such as this.

The army has informed the Norwegian delegates of the ceasefire Monitoring Committee that this was a violation of truce by the LTTE.
