Three dead in Beruwela clash

Three persons were killed and 16 injured in a clash between two factions over a dispute at Maradanawatte in Beruwala last Friday.

SSP Upali Gunasekara said the dispute had erupted over the installation of electricity posts near a house.

DIG Sirisena Herath said that so far 16 persons had been admitted to the Beruwala and Kalutara hospitals.

He said the tense situation in the area had been brought under control to prevent further clashes between the two factions.

Police imposed curfew in Beruwala, Payagala and Aluthgama areas soon following the incident.

The curfew was lifted yesterday around 5.30 am after a team of Special Task Force (STF) depoloyed to prevent further violence.
