Second U.S. Naval ship to visit Colombo

The United States Embassy yesterday said that the USS Sides (FFG-14), a US Navy guided missile frigate, will arrive in Colombo on Saturday, May 11 for a four-day port visit. It will be the second such U. S. Naval visit in just over two weeks.

The USS Hopper, a guided missile destroyer, visited Colombo last month. It was the first U. S. Naval visit in eight years.

The USS Sides is based in San Diego, California and has a crew of approximately 180.

The Sides is currently in the midst of a regularly scheduled deployment that includes operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the international war on terrorism.
