| Ajith Jayasekara appointed to the Cricket Interim Committee by Rex Clementine Former manager of the Sri Lanka cricket team, Ajith Jayasekara and Lucien Merinnage have been appointed to the Interim Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka in place of Trevor Rajaratnam and Mohan de Silva. A spokesman of the Sports Ministry confirmed the appointments and said that the appointments took effect from Wednesday. Speaking to the Island, Trevor Rajaratnam said he along with his colleague Mohan de Silva had taken the decision to step down as a matter of policy. Earlier this year, Ajith Jayasekara, who was functioning as the manager of the Sri Lankan cricket team was not given continuity by the then Interim Committee of the Cricket Board despite an impressive run, but now, he too has been elevated to games governing body. After Roshan Mahanama stepped down from the post of coach of the A team he too was surprisingly brought into the Interim Committee by the minister of sports Johnston Fernando. The Island learns that still there is a possibility of widening the number of Cricket Interim Committee by brining in Mohan de Silva and Trevor Rajaratnam if the legal matters pertaining to the dissolution of the Cricket Board are solved. |
