On a proposal by member of parliament, Dinesh Gunawardana to establish a new parliamentary system the government parliamentary group at a meeting held last Thursday (09) at the parliamentary complex decided to allow members of the government party to express their independent and personal views openly. It was the view of the members that the debate on a new parliamentary system should not be limited to a short time but should be carried on for several days, states a press release by the office of the Prime Minister.

It further states that on being pointed out by several members at the meeting regarding several employees in the Road Development Authority losing their jobs due to non availability of funds minister Tilak Marapana said that the problem would be somehow solved very soon. Furthermore there being no funds to pay salaries some employees of the Road Development Authority lost their jobs. Members pointed out facts regarding the sea erosion along the western coast. It was decided to investigate and report. Minister T. Maheshwaran brought to the notice of the members several burning questions in Jaffna.
