| Trishaw, phone, cash recovered, suspects nabbed by
Kalinga Weerakkody In the first detection police arrested two suspects for hijacking a brand new three-wheeler in the area threatening the driver with knives. Police said the modus-operandi of the suspects had been to dismantle all three-wheelers in a hideout at Vilayaye area in Kelaniya. Police arrested the two suspects while they were dismantling a three-wheeler valued at Rs. 170,000. The two suspects had been identified as W. Chandana Kumara (25) of Kadawatha and B. Rohan Kavinda of Wattala. The two suspects were remanded till May 17 after they were produced before the Gampaha Magistrate Sujatha de Alwis. In the second detection police arrested a worker of a Chinese Restaurant who had allegedly robbed cash worth Rs. 40,000 and a cellular phone worth Rs. 68,000 from a cubby-hole of a luxury vehicle of a businessman while he was resting inside the locked vehicle. On the day of the incident the suspect who was returning after work around midnight had stopped near the vehicle which had been parked near the Soorigama junction at Gonahena in Kadawatha. As the suspect had noted that the businessman was in deep sleep he had swiftly looted cash and a cellular phone worth over one lakh. The suspect had been identified as S. Sujith (28) Ihala Karagahamuna, Kadawatha. The suspect was remanded till May 17 after he was produced before the Gampaha Magistrate. In the third detection police arrested a suspect from Enderamulla, Wattala for having in his possession a 9mm pistol with three ammunitions which had been hidden under a granite stone in the area. The suspect had been identified as K. P. Seneviratne of Gonamulla, Galle. OIC (Crimes) Kadawatha police N. V. Lawrence made the detection. Negombo Negombo police investigating the arrest of two Pakistani nationals on Wednesday for overstaying in Sri Lanka said the suspects would be further interrogated to ascertain the modus operandi. OIC Chaminda Nishantha of Negombo Tourist Police (NTP) said that the suspects were arrested while they were staying in a guest house in Ethukala in Negombo. Under section 28 (2) of the Immigration and Emigration act these suspects were arrested who had arrived six months ago. |
