AG given time for objections to Ratwattes' bail applications

Justice Raja Fernando and Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunga of the Court of Appeal, yesterday gave the Attorney General time till June 5, to file objections to the application for bail, filed by the former Deputy Minister of Defence, Anuruddha Ratwatte and his sons, Lohan and Chanuka.

Anuruddha, Lohan and Chanuka Ratwatte are at present in remand custody, on the orders of the Magistrate of Teldeniya.

They were arrested in connection with the Udathalawinna massacre on the day of the last general election. Ten Muslim civilians were killed in a shooting incident.

The respondent to the bail applications is the Attorney General. State Counsel Achala Wengappuli appeared for the state.

Ranjith Abeysuriya PC appeared for Anuruddha Ratwatte, while Tirantha Walaliyadde appeared for Lohan and Chanuka Ratwatte.
