| Japan funds community development The Central Provincial Development Ministry under its village rehabilitation programme funded by Japan under 2 kR project intends to improve rural roads and build community halls, libraries, weekend fairs etc. Under the development programme, 17 projects will be launched in the Central Province at a cost of rupees 169 million, Uva province at a cost of Rs. 119 million, Sabaragamuwa province at a cost of Rs. 114 million and Ampara district in the east at a cost of Rs. 6 million. Already funds for these projects have been released, Central Pronvincial Development Minister Tissa Attanayake said at a meeting held at Sethsiripaya to assess the progress, states a news release from the Ministry of Central Region Development. The provincial minister also pointed out that Rs. 428 million granted as aid to develop 84 projects was insufficient. As such action is being taken to develop 43 projects under this Japanese aid scheme, states the press release further. |
