| Trees in Racecourse Avenue Colombo 7 Some months back there was a letter, highlighting the danger to students, pedestrians and motorists, from falling branches and trees lining this road in particular but Colombo 7 as a whole. It called upon Authorities to regularly trim and balance these trees which are perhaps 100 years old. Coincidentally, this was after a tree had fallen, and damaged the newly painted front wall and mesh of the Maligawa opposite the Grandstand, more or less, of the old Race Course. No one was hurt. But But but, has one walked down Guilford Crescent and not noticed that equally if not larger trees, growing well within the rear premises of the Maligawa, having humongous branches perilously overhanging the road, and a less decorated wall of the Maligawa? Is this also a job for the authorities, or would one be entitled to claim damages from
the owners of the Maligawa if there is a disaster in Guilford Crescent? |
