WCASL looks for new talent — entries close on July 31

The Women’s Cricket Association of Sri Lanka (WCASL) is in search of new talent in preparation for the Women’s World Cup 2004 to be staged in South Africa.

Sri Lanka is one of the six finalists who have qualified for the World Cup 2004. The others are England, India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The WCASL is in the process of drawing up their calendar up to the 2005 summer. There is only one international fixture for this year. The pool will be selected in August this year during the WCASL’s annual tourney.

All cricket clubs in the WCASL are eligible and all entries should be forwarded to its Secretary Mrs. C. Munaweera (on 077-763150) or to the President C/o 9/2, Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7 by July 31 for registration.

The new entrants will be under the custody of Head Coach Nihal Kodituwakku who will have sufficient time to turn new players into professionals.

The 2004 World Cup will be Sri Lanka’s third exposure at such a tournament. The WCASL is an official member of the IWCC with full voting rights and Test status.
