| Let sanity prevail! The All Ceylon Moors Association, the premier and pioneer organisation of Sri Lankan Moors established by Marhoom Sir Razik Fareed 89 years ago, is perturbed, agitated, and aghast by the recent political trend in the body politic of Sri Lanka. The President it as accused that she procured 2.4 billion worth of bullet proof luxury vehicles and brought a hand bag with security video tape recording to a cabinet meeting which is not ultra vires and the President accuses a Minister of bringing bombs to a cabinet meeting. This rhetoric does not help simmer and calm nerves. The Prime Minister believes that the President will dissolve Parliament after one year in December this year. The Prime Minister feels that to continue synchronously and chronologically with the peace process it is necessary to be in office after one year. Further, if the President does not agree to non dissolution of parliament one year, then the government could carry on. Economic restructuring of the countrys economy which is battered needs to be bolstered. Legislation is being framed to be enacted in Parliament where the President will be disallowed to dissolve parliament after 1 year. This needs two thirds majority. If this fails the Prime Minister hopes to recommend dissolution of parliament and force a snap election. The snap election will cost Rs. 1 billion in addition there will be violence and malpractices as in all elections in Sri Lanka. The civil society feels that this is not an opportune moment for an election. There have been three elections in the last three years. What the country needs is stability economic revival so that the bankruptcy is averted. People are starving, cost of living is soaring high, the stock exchange is slipping down, peace is fragile, and the private sector engine of growth has still not got off to a start. To burden the people further in a snap election is not the need of the hour now. May saner counsel prevail, may sanity prevail, may confrontations not occur, may we not create a sense of conflict, may we resolve the conflict between the PA and the UNF together with the President and resolve with the progress of the community in general with the private sector taking the lead as the "engine of growth" and parliamentarians join in hands.
