The Commission on Bribery and Corruption is likely to question and record a statement of JVP Propaganda Secretary and Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa regarding a complaint made on his assets by a person in Piliyandala identified as Lal Perera.

Member of the Bribery Commission, DIG Kingsley Wickremasuriya said the officers in his Department were now gathering information on Weerawansa’s assets.

The Commission has already obtained details on Weerawansa’s assets declaration to Parliament and the Western Provincial Council where he was a member before being elected to Parliament.

The Commission claimed that investigations were half way through and once the matter was completed it would seek the assistance of Weerawansa to record his statement.

A resident of Piliyandala complained to the Commission inquiring into bribery and corruption last year regarding a private telecommunication agency owned by Wimal Weerawansa and thereafter investigations were initiated. Also parliamentary sanction had been obtained to inquire into the assets of MP, Wimal Weerawansa, the sources said.
