Fraud Bureau seeks AG’s advice over ‘cricket T-shirts’

by Kalinga Weerakkody
The Colombo Fraud Bureau has sought the Attorney General’s advice to prosecute a garment factory in Dehiwala which had allegedly manufactured T-shirts with International Cricket Council (ICC) logo used in the on-going mini world cup ICC Champions’ Trophy.

A group of Indian lawyers appearing on behalf of the ICC has made this complaint to the bureau under the Intellectual Property Act.

According to the complaint the ICC has granted official sponsorship for the current tournament to only four companies. They are Pepsi, Hero Honda, South African Airlines and LG Electronics.

Fraud Bureau sleuths raided two sales outlets belonging to the garment factory in question last week and recovered 50 T-shirts manufactured carrying the ICC logo of the current mini world cup series.

A special squad of Fraud Bureau men led by the Director of the Fraud Bureau SSP V. Kandasamy conducted the investigations.
