Boy slapped by teacher in hospital

From Neminda Samarajeewa
A student of a leading boys school in Galle was admitted to Karapitiya hospital after he was slapped hard by a teacher.

The enraged teacher had slapped the boy after he represented another student who had been summoned by the teacher, police said.

The father of the victim is a doctor attached to the Karapitiya hospital. The boy had been slapped so hard that he may have possibly damaged his ear drum, reports said.

OIC L. D. N. Karunaratne said investigations are continuing. The principal of the school is conducting a disciplinary inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old woman and her grandson were admitted to the Kalubowila hospital following an acid attack last Thursday night.

Police suspect that acid had been thrown at the victims over a mix-up as there had been some enmity with the family who had occupied the house at Maharagama earlier. The victims had moved in just two weeks back and the acid attack would have been meant for the family who stayed there earlier, police said.

The condition of the woman is critical, police said.

No arrests have been made so far, OIC (Crimes) I. P. Edirisinghe said.
