The CID has taken over investigations into the killing oif Dr. W.A.W.Wasantha Seneviratne at Maharagama on September 19 by an unidentified gunman.

SP M.A. Gnanaratne of the Homicide and Criminal Intelligence Unit of the CID said this was done on a request by the Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) to the Acting IGP.

Asked about the progress of the on-going investigations he said that it is too early to comment, but all possible aspects to track down the culprits are being gone into.

He said that so far police have recorded statements from around 10 persons including neighbours and relatives of the victim.

Police said there were reports of a possible involvement of another doctor in the killing, butit was too early tocome to any conclusion..

The victim was shot in the head and killed by an unknown gunman at Jayanthipatumaga in Pamunuwa, Maharagama.

At the time of the shooting the doctor was taking some clothes for his new born baby.
