KANDY — The former Director of the Presidential Security Division (PSD) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Karunaratne yesterday (25) furnished cash bail of Rs. 5000 at the High Court of Kandy in connection with a case of using criminal intimidation on the OIC of Hanguranketha police station during the last general election period.

The bail was allowed on SSP Nihal Karunaratne by the High Court Judge of Kandy Sisira de Abrew.

SSP Nihal Karunaratne has been indicted with using criminal intimidation on IP Gunaratne Banda at the venue of an election propaganda meeting at Rikillagaskada.

Nihal Karunaratne was ordered to appear in Court again on June 12, by the presiding Judge.

Bail was allowed for SSP Nihal Karunaratne by the High Court of Kandy Sisira de Abrew.

State Counsel Ms. Dishna Warnakula appeared for the prosecution while Wijaya Wickremaratne PC with Attorneys Piyasiri Abeykoon, Jirantha Herath, Saman Kariyawasam and Ms. Dhammika Ariyadasa appeared for Nihal Karunaratne.

SSP Nihal Karunaratne was accompanied by some of his close associates yesterday.
