The government has invited tenders for the purchase of two ‘Thangus’ ropes required for the gallows from foreign companies.

Already, a Sri Lankan agent for a foreign company has tendered at the rate of Rs. 95,000/- per rope.

But no other foreign company has tendered for the supply of ropes, a prisons official said.

Once the approval of the President is received for the gallows the purchase of these ropes will be made, Interior Minister John Amaratunga said.
