| Shell-shocked lime growers The lime grower is shell shocked because after all their efforts and hard work fresh lime is sold at Rs. 3 to Rs. 4 a kilo in lime growing districts. This is sad. There are many ways to preserve this bountiful lime harvest such as home made Lunu Dehi, Cordials, Lime preserves in juice in bottles/cans, etc. This can be exported, especially to the Middle-Eastern countries. Lime juice is used in many ways, even as a disinfectant, antidote for fungi causing irritation and as a eye cleanser. It will be great if some patriotic Sri Lankan organisation can get involved in helping these ordinary village folk and give them a helping hand and save them from the crafty middle men, who fleece these ordinary people. These courageous men and women in far flung, outposts have been shell-shocked in more ways than one, literally and metaphorically. Give them a chance to breath at least now it may be short lived. |
