| Buddhist Conference blacked out
The International Buddhist Conference with the participation of seven Buddhist countries concluded its sessions at the BMICH recently. It was organised by the Minister of Buddha Sasana to fulfil one provision of the Constitution namely Article 9 to safeguard the Buddha Sasana for which all parliamentarians have declared under oath to do so. The Minister in Charge of the Buddha Sasana Ministry and Dr. A. W. P. Guruge appeared on television and explained the purpose of the conference and the topics lined up for discussion, An article by Prof. B Hewawitharana appeared in the press the same day. It is surprising that the proceedings of this all important conference did not appear in the media except a passing shot in one channel nor the usual press conference at the conclusion of the conference was never held. Buddhists who constitute over 70 percent of the population have a rightful
claim to know the results of this conference held with public funds. It appears that to
the government and the media Buddhist news is no news. |
