The enhanced interest rates offered by the National Savings Bank to senior citizens who hold Fixed Deposit Accounts with them is most welcome at a time when depositors trust in private sector financial institutions is diminishing for various reasons.

It would be much appreciated if the following points are also clarified by the NSB for the benefit of its depositors.

1. Whether the enhanced rate is payable with retrospective effect to the existing deposits and if so the effective date.

2. If there are one or more partners to a Joint Fixed Deposit A/C below the age of sixty whether the enhanced rate is payable in respect of such deposits.
