Two Germans fined for possessing butterflies

Two German nationals who had in their possession 50 live butterflies were last week taken into police custody at Moneragala.

The suspects, who were handed over to the police by wildlife officers, were later produced before court and fined Rs. 30,000 each.

The two foreigners, Wolf Dister Brasswin and Neubomer, pleaded guilty to the charge, police said.

Some of the butterflies had been hurt during capture, police said.

The detection was made by Moneragala wildlife officer L. K. Chandrakumara.
