MP had shot in the air in self-defence — John Amaratunga

"The management of the Colombo Hilton Hotel would not take legal action against the incident that took place last Sunday (25). In case they take legal action I would be making special investigations on the matter," Interior Minister John Amaratunga said.

He further said that Hambalantota district MP, Dileep Wedaarachchi had shot in the air in self-defence.

Meanwhile, information has been received that the hotel management had charged the wedding party the damages.

Colombo Division DIG, Bodhi Liyanage in this connection said that further investigations were being pursued.

But he said that he did not know whether the hotel management, the wedding party or the MP would go to courts on this incident.

The Colombo Fort police in this connection said that statements of the participants as well as the member of parliament concerned would be recorded. Already, a team of the police had been sent to record the statement of the MP.
