Upali Group to light up Situlpauwa

The annual Poson illuminations of the historic Situlpauwa Raja Maha Viharaya which is situated inside Ruhuna National Wildlife Park will be held on 13th, 14th and 15th June 2003 as usual.

The series of these poson pinkamas are held under the guidance and patronage of Ven. Keerthi Sri Gunaratana Wattahene Ratanasara Nayake Thera, Panditha Matterambe Hemaratne Thera and Mahinda Rajapakse, President of the Dayaka Sabha. The incumbent at these pinkamas pride of place will be given to Seela, Bhavana, Bana Sermons, Dhamma discussion, Buddha Poojas, Bodhi Poojas and other religious rituals.

As in the past the Upali Group of Companies will do the illumination of Situlpauwa from June 13-15. On Poson Poya day, the lights will be switched on by Karu Jayasuriya, Minister of Power and Energy, Rukman Senanayake, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, Minister of Irrigation and Jayalath Jayawardene, Minister of Rehabilitation.

Nilanga Dela Basnayake Nilame of Kataragama Devalaya, Pradeep Hapangama, Basnayake Nilame of Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, Ranjith Eriyagama, Director Wildlife Department and Directors of Upali Group of Companies will also grace the occasion.

It is expected that as usual over 10,000 devotees will observe Sil and an equal number will visit the Viharaya for observance of religious rites.
